THE ANGELS The messenger of Christ’s birth. Marcel Carbonel puts three types of angels on show in his crib: The Standing Angel – the same size as the other characters – he announces the birth of Jesus. He is the symbol of God’s presence close to the Holly Child. The Herald Angel (Boufareu, in Provençal ‘he who blows’) holds a trumpet in his hands and guides the people to the sacred stable. The Angel’s Head and the Two Cherubin watch over the newborn child’s slumber they are meant to be hung up, amongst the leaves decorating the crib.
A pair of small angelic faces with a hanger attached allows for more angels at the crib.
